P'ansori (Korean: 판소리) is a Korean genre of musical storytelling performed by a vocalist and a drummer. The music is usually performed by one sorikkun (Korean: 소리꾼, a singer) and one gosu (a drummer playing a barrel drum called buk)

This work for solo cello is inspired by the dramatic and percussive aspects of P’ansori music. I use advanced bow techniques to imitate percussion and use flexible rhythms and timbral manipulation to convey the dramatic style of narration.
